Connecting Life and Faith

Woodlands Bible Church exists to glorify God by edifying believers and evangelizing the lost in Eveleth, Minnesota.

Doctrinal Beliefs That Shape Woodlands

The following statements summarize what specific biblical truths we believe the Bible teaches. Come see how God works all these things together for His glory and the good of our church family in Eveleth.

The Bible

We teach that the Bible was originally breathed out by God and written down by holy men of God as they were moved by the Holy Spirit. The Bible is verbally inspired, inerrant (in whole and in part), sufficient, eternal, and the supreme and final authority in faith and in life. The literal, historical, grammatical, theological, exegetical method is the only way to interpret the Scripture.

(Psalm 19:7-11; 119:89; Matthew 24:35; 2 Timothy 3:14-17; Hebrews 4:12; 2 Peter 1:3-21; 3:14-18; Revelation 22:18-19)

The Sovereignty of God in Salvation

We teach that salvation is of the Lord from beginning to end. God predestined His elect for salvation according to the counsel and purpose of His own will. Men cannot regenerate themselves by the strength of their own will or prepare themselves for conversion, because they are completely dead in trespasses and sins. Through the regenerating power of the Holy Spirit, God sovereignly prepares the elect for salvation by graciously granting them repentance and faith to respond to the Word. Man must only boast in Christ for his salvation and give all the glory to God.

(Jonah 2:9; Jeremiah 1:5; Mark 1:14-15; Luke 13:3; 24:46-47; John 1:11-13; 3:3-8, 16, 18, 36; 5:24; 6:35-44, 63-65; 8:24; 10:14-16, 25-30; 17:1-6, 20-21; Acts 13:48; 17:30-31; 20:20-21; Romans 8:28–39; 9:6–26, 11:33-36; Ephesians 1:3-14; 2:1–10; Philippians 1:6; Titus 3:3-5)

The Literal Six-Day Creation

We teach that the entire universe was brought into existence by the creating act of the triune God in six literal 24-hour days and that He rested on the seventh day.

(Genesis 1:1-2:25; Exodus 31:17; John 1:1-3; Colossians 1:15-19)

The Cessation of Miraculous Gifts

We teach that the sign gifts (healing, miracles, tongues, and prophecy) have ceased along with the office of Apostle.

(Acts 2:42–43; [2 Corinthians 12:12; cf. 1 Timothy 5:23]; Ephesians 2:19-22; Hebrews 2:2–4; James 5:13-18)

The Two Ordinances of the Church

We teach that the two ordinances are believers’ baptism and the Lord’s Supper. These symbolic ordinances cannot take away sin.

(Matthew 26:26-30; 28:18-20; Acts 2:41; 8:36-38; 10:47; 16:33; Romans 6:3-11; 1 Corinthians 11:17-34)

The Complementary Roles of Men and Women

We teach that men and women are both image bearers of God and equal heirs of salvation. Yet, they are distinct in design and role according to the Scriptures.

(Genesis 1:26-27; 2:18–24; Ephesians 5:22–28; 1 Timothy 2:11–14; Titus 2:1–6)

The Pre-tribulational Rapture of the Church

We teach the pre-tribulational rapture at which time the church saints will unite together with Christ in the air sometime before the Great Tribulation of Israel.

(John 14:1-3; 1 Thessalonians 1:10; 4:13-17; 5:9-10; Titus 2:13; Revelation 3:10)

The Future Salvation and National Restoration of Israel

We teach that God made specific promises to national Israel in the Old Testament that are not yet fulfilled. These promises will be fulfilled at the return of Jesus Christ.

(Jeremiah 31:31–40; 33:14–26; Romans 11:1–31)

The Future Thousand-Year Reign of Christ on Earth

We teach that Jesus Christ will return in glory after the Great Tribulation to occupy the literal throne of David. King Jesus will establish His Messianic Kingdom for a literal duration of one thousand years on this earth.

(Psalm 2; Daniel 7:26-27; Zechariah 8:1-17; Luke 1:31-33; Acts 1:10-11; 2:29-30; Revelation 19:11–20:7)

Ministry Practices That Shape Woodlands

The following statements summarize how the truths  shapes how we live as a church family in Eveleth. These priorities shape our worship and ministry. Come see how God works all these things together for His glory and the good of our church family in Eveleth.

Expositional Preaching

Our sermons aim to accurately explain the Scriptures according to the authors’ plainly intended meaning, and to faithfully apply them to our lives today.

(Ezra 7:10; Nehemiah 8:7-8; 2 Timothy 2:14-15; 3:16-4:5)

Plurality of Elders

Our local, autonomous congregation is governed by the Holy Spirit in accord with the Scriptures. The Elders consist of a plurality of biblically qualified men.

(Acts 14:23; 1 Timothy 3:1–7; Titus 1:5–9; 1 Peter 5:1–4)

Church Membership

Our church membership is a formal commitment, responsibility, partnership, and accountability to one another at Woodlands Bible Church.

(Matthew 18:15–17; Acts 2:37–47; 1 Thessalonians 5:12–13; 1 Timothy 5:17–21; Hebrews 10:24–25)

Biblical Counseling

Our counseling depends solely on the inerrancy and sufficiency of the Scriptures.

(Psalm 19:7-11; Romans 12:2; 2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:3-4)

Life-on-Life Discipleship

Our discipleship model is to form genuine and personal relationships as we pursue growing in Christ together. This requires a mutual commitment to practice biblical discipline within our church membership.

(Matthew 18:15-17; Acts 2:42-47; 4:33-35; 1 Corinthians 5; Galatians 6:1-5; 1 Thessalonians 2:7-12; 2 Thessalonians 3:6-15; 2 Timothy 2:1-2)

God-centered Praise

Our highest aim is to please the Lord and not man. Therefore, the songs we sing corporately are to be God-glorifying and line up doctrinally with the Scriptures.

(Psalm 98:4-6; 150; Isaiah 12:5; John 4:24; Romans 15:5-13; 2 Corinthians 5:9; 6:14-7:1; Ephesians 5:15-21; Colossians 3:15-17; 1 Timothy 4:1; Revelation 14:1-5; 15:3-4)

Next-Gen Ministry

Our desire is that the next generation will know, love, and fear the Lord. Our ministries are focused on equipping parents in fulfilling their biblical responsibilities to spiritually lead their homes.

(Deuteronomy 6:1-7; Psalm 78:4; Ephesians 6:1-4; 2 Timothy 2:2)

Nathan Shaulis
Elder/Pastor

Nathan Shaulis regularly serves as the teaching elder of Woodlands Bible Church. He is a born and raised country boy from PA. Although he was raised in a Christian home, God sovereignly regenerated him in 2004.

God prepared Nathan for ministry at Northland Baptist Bible College, where he earned his BA and started a graduate degree.

Nathan previously worked as an ISA certified arborist for 12 years before becoming a full time Pastor. You will still often find him doing tree work as a hobby. He loves the scent of anything 2-cycle, trapping beavers, hunting, and fixing up the old farm where he currently resides with his wife and children.

Teachers who have influenced me: Keven Brownfield, Les Ollila, John MacArthur, Alistair Begg, Paul Washer, James White, Steven Lawson, & R.C. Sproul.

And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent. I glorified you on earth, having accomplished the work that you gave me to do. And now, Father, glorify me in your own presence with the glory that I had with you before the world existed.” (John 17:3–5)
